First appearing in early 2017, TAXA Outdoors’ Woolly Bear is an ultra-rugged, go-anywhere adventure trailer that can be towed with almost any basic four-cylinder automobile. While the first-generation Woolly Bear was already an incredibly impressive offering, the Houston-based business has nonetheless opted to bestow the trailer with major improvements for each year’s iteration. And after previously debuting the 2022 model year trailer — along with a more recent, collaborative Kammok Edition variant — the mobile base camp company has now unveiled an even more capable version with the new Woolly Bear Overland Edition.
The Overland Edition Woolly Bear retains the vast majority of noteworthy features from the regular model, but it has also received a slew of components that make for an even more rugged and capable off-road trailer. On top of a thoroughly reinforced chassis, this also includes a Timbren axle-less suspension setup with electric brakes, 16” steel wheels wrapped in Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac tires, an extended tongue, quad heavy-duty stabilizer jacks, Fulton XLT swivel tongue jack rated at 1,500lbs, a new front storage platform, a custom front-mounted MOLLE panel, a double battery box for longer trips off-grid, and ground clearance that’s been increased by 2.75” — now standing at 14.75”.
Weighing only 1,400lbs, this new model is specifically designed for Overland exploration and features an optional 23Zero rooftop tent that can comfortably accommodate three adults. Highlights that have carried over from the regular Woolly Bear include a full-size kitchen, modular storage systems, and a pull-out cooler drawer. Just like with the existing Overland Editions of TAXA’s Cricket and Mantis models, the Overland-spec Woolly Bear also comes cloaked in a light coyote paint job. And, because the trailer measures 11’ 4” in length, it can also be stored in the vast majority of standard one or two-car garages.
Available for preorder now with delivery dates scheduled to begin next month, the 2022 TAXA Outdoors Woolly Bear Overland Edition starts at $18,500 and goes up from there depending on options and equipment.
